Mend and Maintain offers small group Pilates (maximum of 6 participants) and private clinical and mat work classes. There’s no need to worry about not being able to ‘keep up’ because each class is designed to cater to your individual needs.
You’ll be given a comprehensive, free assessment before you join one of our groups, with the option of private Pilates classes. This allows your instructor to determine which areas you need assistance with – in terms of balance, weaknesses and any restrictions you may have. Your instructor will use this assessment to develop a tailored program that progresses each week safely to get you fighting fit again.
Our classes will strengthen your core and safely help your rehabilitation. These programs suit those who wish to improve their performance and try and prevent damage, or who want a gentle way to recovery post-injury.
We offer mat and clinical classes, and the differences between these styles are listed below:

Mat Pilates
These classes are perfect for beginners who want to explore this form of exercise, as it teaches you muscle control and technique. Those who want to improve their fitness by strengthening their core will also benefit from these sessions.
This style involves using your body weight as well as small equipment for the exercises. This helps you improve control of your muscles, and works your stomach, upper and lower back, and legs. Without any apparatus for support and assistance, you need to learn how to fully control your body in order to get the full benefit of the exercise.
Though it may not seem intimidating, when you advance in this routine, you’re likely to see results fairly quickly due to how your body bears the whole weight of the exercise. This will improve your agility, posture, strength and flexibility, as well as tone your muscles.
Clinical Pilates
As the name suggests, this form of exercise refers to techniques that have clinical benefits. Training and knowledge of physiology and physiotherapy allow the instructor, after a thorough assessment, to determine which exercises are best suited to your needs.
Your instructor then uses their clinical insights to develop a routine that can be modified and adapted to meet your requirements.
This style is often used by those looking for injury prevention, or a modification of their dancing or sporting technique.
It can also be used for the treatment of conditions such as:
- Lower back pain
- Joint replacements
- Arthritic conditions
- Neck pain
- Chronic pain
- Poor abdominal strength
- Proximal (core) instability
- Pelvic floor conditions
